I’d heard a lot of stories about big Mahi Mahi catches on the sunshine coast this year but this video gives a great example of how good Mooloolaba Fishing can be. Apparently the guys that run Top Catch Charters landed this monster in their 15 metre boat, Nautic Boy where they have 2000 GPS plots of where fish have previously been so that they aren’t going in blind. The 13 year old kid that landed the mahi mahi only weighed about 45kg and this was his first big catch. The kid’s father hooked him up with a small harness around the waist to put the rod in to take the pressure off his back as 10 minutes of fighting with this sea monster was bending the little fella in half. he almost gave up in pain several times but thanks to his old man urging him on he saw it through to the end.
